Lake Helen Boil-Water Notice Drags Into Fourth Day

Lake Helen Boil-Water Notice Drags Into Fourth Day

The boil-water notice in Lake Helen has entered its fourth day, leaving residents and local businesses to adapt as city officials wait for additional test results before lifting the advisory.

The notice was issued after routine sampling raised concerns about water quality in the system. Until the results come back clear, households are being told to boil water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or preparing baby formula. Bottled water is also an acceptable alternative.

For small businesses, the disruption has been immediate. Cafes and restaurants have had to adjust menus, bring in ice from outside suppliers, and rely on bottled water for food preparation. Some have scaled back hours or limited service entirely. Residents have been lining up at distribution points for bottled water while restocking shelves at local stores.

City crews continue flushing lines and collecting samples from multiple sites across the system. Officials say they cannot give a firm timeline for when the notice will be lifted, since the process depends on two consecutive rounds of clean tests.

Residents with questions about the notice are being directed to city offices for updates. Officials are asking people to check on elderly neighbors and anyone who may need help getting safe water during the wait.
