Years ago, on an ordinary Thursday at a typical company, I received an unexpected message inviting me to a meeting with the CEO and the head of HR. Many might assume this was a prelude to a dismissal, but the situation was even more daunting. The purpose of the meeting was to enlist my help in rewriting the company values.
This experience highlighted a critical lesson in the business world: sometimes, the best course of action is to refrain from making hasty changes. In a landscape where companies often rush to adapt or pivot, it can be beneficial to pause and reflect on core principles. The values that define a company are not just words on a wall; they shape the culture and guide decision-making.
Revisiting and potentially redefining these values requires careful consideration and input from various stakeholders. Rushing through this process can lead to misalignment and confusion within the organization. In a fast-paced environment, taking a step back can ultimately lead to stronger, more cohesive corporate values that resonate with employees and customers alike.
