FORT BENTON, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte, Senator Josh Kassmier, R-Fort Benton, and local agricultural producers gathered today to advocate for significant reforms to the business equipment tax. The coalition emphasized the need for changes that would alleviate the financial burden on farmers and ranchers, who are facing increasing operational costs.
During the meeting, Governor Gianforte highlighted the importance of a tax system that supports the agricultural sector, which is vital to Montana's economy. He pointed out that the current business equipment tax disproportionately affects ag producers, making it challenging for them to invest in necessary equipment and technology.
Senator Kassmier echoed these sentiments, calling for legislative action to create a more equitable tax structure. Local producers shared their experiences, illustrating how the existing tax policies hinder their ability to grow and sustain their businesses. The group is calling on lawmakers to prioritize this issue in the upcoming legislative session, aiming to foster a more supportive environment for Montana's agricultural community.
