A new collaboration aims to give small businesses in the region a stronger shot at growth. The Hampton Roads Small Business Development Center and the Portsmouth Partnership have announced a joint effort to provide more direct support, training, and guidance to local entrepreneurs. The move is designed to cut through red tape and make resources easier to access for owners who often struggle to find reliable advice.
One notable addition to the initiative is Amber Kostka, who owns The Stockpot restaurant. Kostka is stepping in as a business adviser, bringing hands-on experience from running a food service operation. Her role will focus on helping other owners tackle day-to-day challenges like cash flow, staffing, and marketing, rather than just offering theoretical advice. Organizers say having someone who has actually dealt with the pressures of a small business makes the program more practical and relatable.
The partnership will also host workshops and one-on-one counseling sessions across Portsmouth, with an emphasis on reaching businesses in underserved neighborhoods. Both groups hope the combined effort will lead to more stable jobs and a stronger local economy. For now, the focus is on getting the word out and making sure owners know where to turn when they need help.
