The City of Auburn Hills has issued a stern warning to local businesses following a major water main break that has disrupted service across parts of the city. Officials declared a State of Emergency on Tuesday after the rupture caused significant pressure loss and potential contamination risks in the municipal water system.
In a statement released Wednesday, city leaders made clear that non-essential water use will not be tolerated during the crisis. According to city officials, "Instances of water use for non-essential purposes during the State of Emergency will be investigated, and violators may be prosecuted." The warning targets commercial operations such as car washes, landscaping companies, and manufacturing facilities that consume large amounts of water for processes not critical to public health or safety.
Residents are also being asked to conserve water until repairs are complete. The break, which occurred on a main transmission line near the city's industrial corridor, has left some areas under a boil water advisory. Crews are working around the clock to restore normal pressure and test water quality. No timeline has been given for full repairs, but officials expect the situation to last several days. Businesses found in violation face fines or potential legal action as the city prioritizes water for drinking, sanitation, and firefighting.
