Las Vegas is drawing growing numbers of technology entrepreneurs who are packing up their California operations and heading east. The shift has been building for years, and the data backs it up. Historically, about a third of people moving to Nevada from other states have come from California, primarily Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose.
The reasons behind the move are practical. Nevada has no state income tax, and the cost of living and doing business runs far below what founders face in the Bay Area. Office space is cheaper, housing is more affordable, and regulations are lighter. For startups watching every dollar, those savings can extend a company's runway by months.
Las Vegas also offers something California cities struggle to match: a business-friendly climate paired with a growing local tech scene. Incubators, accelerators and networking groups have taken root downtown, and investors are paying attention. The city's airport connects to major markets, and the entertainment and hospitality industries provide a testing ground for new products.
Founders who have made the move describe a less frantic pace and a stronger sense of community. Talent is easier to retain when employees can afford homes. While Silicon Valley remains the industry's capital, Las Vegas is no longer an afterthought. It is becoming a real alternative for entrepreneurs who want to build without the overhead.
