Skorch'd Pizza filling former Mother restaurant space in Midtown Sacramento

Skorch'd Pizza filling former Mother restaurant space in Midtown Sacramento

A new pizza spot is set to take over the former Mother restaurant space in Midtown Sacramento. Skorch'd Pizza will move into 2319 K St., a location that previously housed the popular vegetarian eatery before it closed its doors.

The news comes as something of a shift for the neighborhood, which has seen several restaurant changes over the past year. Skorch'd, known for its wood-fired pies and a focus on bold, charred crusts, has been building a following in the Sacramento area. The team behind the pizzeria said they were drawn to the Midtown location for its foot traffic and the character of the building itself.

Details on the exact opening date are still thin, but the owners have confirmed that renovations are underway. They plan to keep some of the original layout while adding their own touches, including an open kitchen area where customers can watch the pizza-making process. The menu will feature a range of classic and specialty pizzas, along with salads and a small selection of appetizers.

For longtime residents, the change is bittersweet. Mother was a staple for plant-based dining in the city, and its departure left a gap for vegetarian options in that part of Midtown. Skorch'd has said they intend to offer a few vegan-friendly choices, though the main focus will clearly be on their signature style of pizza.

Local food bloggers have already started speculating about how the new spot will fit into the area's competitive dining scene, which includes several other well-known pizzerias within a few blocks. Skorch'd's owners remain confident, pointing to their experience and the demand for quality pizza in the neighborhood.

An opening is expected sometime in the coming months, with more announcements to follow as the build-out progresses. For now, the sign on the window simply reads "Coming Soon," leaving curious passersby to imagine what the space will look like once the ovens are fired up.
