Karen Strolia, who has led the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce as its president and chief executive officer, is stepping into a new role as the head of the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership. The organization announced this week that Strolia will assume the position of chief executive officer, bringing with her a deep understanding of the local business community and a track record of building partnerships across Marin County.
Strolia has spent years at the chamber, where she focused on economic development, workforce issues, and connecting small businesses with resources. Her move to the nonprofit sector marks a shift in focus, but she says the skills are transferable. The Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership works with hundreds of local charities, offering training, consulting, and volunteer coordination. Strolia will oversee efforts to strengthen the region's nonprofit infrastructure, which has faced growing demand for services and tighter budgets.
Board members praised her ability to bridge the gap between the private sector and charitable organizations. Strolia replaces the previous CEO, who retired after a long tenure. She is expected to start her new role next month.
