A West Philadelphia entrepreneur has brought a Philadelphia favorite to Disneyland, making history in the process.
The business owner grew up around water ice, the sweet frozen treat that has long been a summer staple in Philadelphia neighborhoods. What started as a local tradition is now being served to visitors from around the world at the California theme park.
The journey was not quick or simple. It took years of planning, product testing and conversations with park officials before the idea became real. The entrepreneur had to prove that water ice could work in a fast paced environment where guests expect quick service and consistent quality.
The stand offers several flavors, including the classic lemon and cherry that longtime fans know well. Workers scoop the dessert the same way it is done back home, keeping the texture soft rather than hard like Italian ice sold in other parts of the country.
For the owner, the opening means more than a business deal. It puts a piece of Philadelphia culture in front of millions of people who may never visit the city. Family members and friends from the old neighborhood have said they feel proud to see the name connected to such a well known destination.
The entrepreneur now hopes to expand the brand further while keeping the original recipes and the neighborhood feel that started it all.
