The Northwestern Alumni-Owned Small Business Directory, established in 2020, has become a vital resource for connecting alumni with their entrepreneurial ventures. Austin Harvey, a 2004 Communication graduate, was the inaugural alumnus to register his establishment, Beermiscuous, a popular beer café with locations in Highwood and Lakeview.
The directory was created by the Northwestern Alumni Association and features listings from over 400 alumni who submitted their businesses through a public form. This initiative not only promotes alumni-owned enterprises but also fosters a sense of community among graduates.
By providing a platform for these businesses, the directory encourages alumni to support one another, creating opportunities for collaboration and networking. The response from the alumni community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the chance to discover and patronize fellow graduates' businesses. As the directory continues to grow, it stands as a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of Northwestern alumni and their commitment to supporting one another in the business world.
