From family practice to business leadership: Dr. Michael App continues his journey at Davenport

Michael App, M.D., is a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids and a busy man. He runs his own private medical practice, leads the largest network of independent physicians in West Michigan, serves as medical director for Interim Hospice and Home Health Care of West Michigan, and is a student at Davenport University.

His path into medicine began with a focus on family practice. Over time, he saw that caring for patients also meant understanding the systems that support them. That realization pushed him toward business leadership and formal study.

Balancing clinical duties with coursework is not simple. App manages patient schedules, guides physician groups, and oversees hospice programs while completing assignments. He credits discipline and clear priorities for keeping everything moving.

At Davenport, he is building skills in management and strategy. His goal is to strengthen independent practices and help physicians navigate a changing health care landscape. He believes that doctors need a seat at the table when decisions are made about care delivery and business operations.

App's journey shows how one physician is expanding his role beyond the exam room. By combining medical expertise with business training, he aims to support colleagues and improve patient outcomes across the region.
