Chicago officials investigating 2 suspicious fires at business in West Loop

The Chicago Fire Department has opened an investigation into two separate fires that broke out at the same business property in the West Loop, a space that houses both a small museum and a Mediterranean restaurant. Officials say the incidents are being treated as suspicious, though no injuries have been reported.

The first fire was reported late Monday evening, with crews responding to the building near the intersection of Randolph and Halsted. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to a rear storage area, but not before it caused significant smoke damage. Just hours later, a second fire ignited in a different section of the same structure, prompting a larger response from the department.

Authorities have not released details on what may have caused either fire, but they have confirmed that both are being investigated jointly by the Chicago Fire Department's Office of Fire Investigation and the Chicago Police Department. The business, known for its rotating exhibits and its sit-down dining area, has been closed since the first fire, and a damage assessment is underway.

Neighbors in the area told local reporters that they smelled smoke and saw flashing lights early Tuesday morning. Some expressed concern about the frequency of incidents in the district, though officials stressed that there is no current threat to public safety. Anyone with information about the fires has been asked to contact the fire department's tip line. The investigation remains active.
