Chamber to host special business briefing on Brainerd school referendum

Local business leaders will get a chance to learn more about the Brainerd school referendum during a special briefing planned for later this month. The session is set for 11 a.m. to noon on Oct. 22 at the Greater Lakes Association of REALTORS office in Baxter.

The event is aimed at giving employers, property owners and community members a clear picture of what the referendum would fund and how it could affect local taxes. Organizers say the format will include a presentation followed by time for questions, so attendees can get direct answers instead of sorting through rumors or scattered information.

School district officials are expected to outline the projects tied to the measure, including facility upgrades and other long-term needs. Supporters argue the investment is necessary to keep schools safe and competitive, while critics question the timing and the cost to taxpayers.

Chamber leaders say the briefing is not a rally for either side. The goal is to help the business community understand the numbers before casting a vote. Seating may be limited, so those planning to attend are encouraged to register early through the chamber.
