BUSINESS PERSPECTIVES: BerkShares Business of the Month is Ward's Nursery

Sam and Eva Ward, the owners of Ward's Nursery, have been recognized as the BerkShares Business of the Month for their deep commitment to local community engagement. The couple runs the nursery with a hands-on approach, showing up on site every day to talk directly with customers about their gardening needs.

Beyond daily operations, the Wards focus on education. They have built a strong resources page on their website, offering practical guides and seasonal tips for gardeners of all skill levels. The nursery also hosts regular workshops and programs aimed at teaching sustainable landscaping and plant care.

Eva Ward said the goal is to help people feel confident in their own gardens. "We want to be a resource, not just a store," she explained. Sam Ward added that being present every day allows them to listen to what customers actually need, rather than guessing from a distance.

The BerkShares program highlights local businesses that strengthen the regional economy. Ward's Nursery was chosen for this month's honor because of its consistent focus on building relationships and sharing knowledge. The nursery has operated in the area for years, and the Wards say they plan to keep expanding their educational offerings.

For now, they encourage anyone with questions about plants or soil to stop by and ask. "We are here to help," Sam Ward said. "That is the whole point."
