An 18-year-old is dead and three others are hurt after a van crashed into a commercial building on Tuesday afternoon, according to local authorities. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at a strip mall on the city's west side.
Emergency crews arrived to find the vehicle fully embedded in the front wall of a small retail shop. The driver, a teenager from a nearby town, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released his name pending notification of family.
The three people who were inside the business at the time of the crash were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries are described as non-life-threatening, though one person remains under observation for possible internal injuries. Witnesses told investigators that the van appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed before it left the roadway and struck the building.
Police are looking into whether a medical emergency or mechanical failure played a role. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. The building sustained significant structural damage and has been temporarily closed.
